We hope you would like to start off 2015 in a positive way by joining us for an essential ‘Essential Mindfulness’ introductory 2 hour workshop in Galway on Saturday 17th January at the Maldron Hotel, Oranmore (10.30am-12.30pm).
If you have wondered what all the talk of Mindfulness is about, or if you already know a little but have yet to commit to an 8 week MBSR (Mindfulness based stress relief) or MBCT (Mindfulness based cognitive therapy) course, then this may be the perfect place for you to start!
Come along and experience the power of ‘Being Mode’ instead of the frantic ‘Doing Mode’ that most of use spend our lives in. You will be introduced to this excellent tool to help you live in present moment awareness, to acknowledge and savour sensations, to observe rather than judge your thoughts, and to reconnect with your body, along with gaining an insight into how to gently turn towards areas of difficulty in your life, in a curious and compassionate way that can be greatly beneficial in developing and maintaining peace of mind, and managing stress and depression.
Supported by the evidence from large global clinical trials, MBCT is now recommended by NICE (the National Institute of Clinical Excellence) in the UK resulting in it being recommended as a more effective treatment than antidepressants for those with recurring depressive episodes (2 or more episodes), and as a result is available to be prescribed on the NHS.
You do not need to have any prior experience of Meditation, the programme is entirely secular, and you can expect to learn about the mental and physical health benefits of mindfulness, along with learning how you can start to put this to practice in simple daily ways in your own life.
Your tutor, Eva Collins (BA Hons. Phil & Psych, BSc., Dip Mgt.), develops, practices and teaches mindfulness programmes which synergise the most practical and accessible MBSR, MBCT and mindful living techniques, as taught and developed by Jon Kabat Zinn, Mark Williams, Thich Nhat Hahn, Pema Chodron amongst others. She adheres to the Good Practice Guidelines for Mindfulness teachers and along with her own practice, regularly updates her teacher training by attending Masterclasses and Retreats at the University of Oxford Mindfulness Centre (where MBCT was developed), Bangor University Centre for Mindfulness Research & Practice and the Sanctuary (Dublin).
She will instruct the group in gentle initial mindfulness techniques which participants can take away to practice further should they wish.
You will also try some savouring techniques of mindful eating (hint: we’ll be providing raisins and delicious chocolate).
Duration: 2 hours, 10.30am-12.30pm including break for Coffee and Biscuits
Limited to 20 participants. Not suitable for children under 14.
Venue: The Maldron Hotel, Oranmore, Galway. Free onsite parking. Directions.
